How to Sanitize Your Fly Gym Aerial Fitness® Set Between Washes

The question has been asked, “what do I use to keep my Fly Gym sanitized between washes?” So, we asked our instructors what they have been using and did a little research ourselves and here is what we found.   Essential Oils!  These oils have amazing properties and really work, keep reading and we will explain how.Using specific essential oils mixed with a carrier (in our case, water) you can create some amazing spritzes to keep your Fly Gyms fresh between washes.  The essential oils we found can be used not only for, disinfecting but for the bonus of the amazing olfactory journey you get to take.  My heroine, Helen Keller, had a wonderful quote:

“Smell is a potent wizard that transports us across thousands of miles and all the years we have lived.”

Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Lavender oils all have antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial properties.  Lemongrass also has antiviral properties.  This helps to keep it fresh and neutralize odors between washing!

All of these oils have aromatherapy benefits which help to calm us.  When we smell something the odor goes into the limbic system or the “emotional part of our brain”.  The limbic system is connected to heart rate, blood pressure, memory, stress levels and hormone balance.  This is where these aromas help us to lower stress thus the calming affect.

To mix your own spritz- Makes 4 ounces

MATERIALS

*Small jar with tight-fitting lid

*1 ounce (2 tablespoons) witch hazel

*12 drops  essential oil (s)

*3 ounces (6 tablespoons) water

*Small funnel

*Spray bottle – suggest the blue ones to block out UV light.

*Printable label PDF – Fly Gym Spritz

*Label sheet, printer and scissors

DIRECTIONS

In the jar, combine the witch hazel and the essential oil(s). Place the lid on tightly and shake well for 15-20 seconds to combine the two. Why? Well, the essential oil won’t distribute into the water on its own, but when diluted in the witch hazel it will mix into the water

Some favorites mentioned by our instructors are:

6 drops of lavender and 6 drops of Lemongrass

6 drops of Tea Tree with 6 drops lavender

Eucalyptus mixes well with lavender and lemongrass

Lemongrass mixes well with anything

Tea Tree mixes well with anything

Let us hear your ideas for a spritz!  We can pass it on.  Send them to jenna@FlyGym.com
